On a bright sunny morning of 18 May 2024, a group of bubbly volunteers from PT Aver Asia set sail to a noble cause in Muara Gembong, Bekasi City, West Java Province, Indonesia. Travel tip: If you are looking for a relaxing break, it is worth noting that there are several beautiful beaches residing in this part of the world.

Today, this same place with Instagrammable vacation spots is also facing very real environment degradation. The PT Aver Asia team lives and breathes our company’s commitment to improve the local liveable environment thus decides to carry out their CSR campaign “Together we green the World”.

Before our men and women start their strenuous day activity, they had a good warm-up session and hearty breakfast. We have to wonder why did they go through the efforts on their off days? (Looking at the photos) Simply getting to the plantation site is already physically demanding. Afterall, there are many easier and lighter activities with good tenacities too.

“Many homes and villages were lost due to the abrasion. This is where our Bekasi branch is and so this place is our home too.”

Mangrove tree planting is an effort to protect the natural environment and the thin mangrove ecosystem due to encroachment, pollution, pests, pond expansions, untrained cultivation practices, and land conversion for commercial purposes.

Mangroves can grow up quickly and reach up to 2 metres within 2 years. They are known to be highly productive with many environmental benefits. Mangroves can act as a vital buffer against storms by slowing the flow of water. Their roots are so strong that they can absorb the large waves of a tsunami! This makes it a cost-effective option rather than building sea walls. Mangroves are able to store 5 times more carbon than terrestrial forests. They are the only trees that thrive in salty waters and improve water quality and the natural environment.

The PT Aver Asia team planted 2,000 mangroves on that hot Saturday afternoon. A salute to our 35 service heroes for restoring the health of Muara Gembong’s coastlines and greening the world. May the mangrove shields Indonesians from coastal floods and storms.
